Illustration forms the heart of an expressive stationery suite. With imagery, both literal and abstract in form, stories and ideas are expressed with soul and meaning. Award winning artists of The Distillery thrive when illustrating wedding stationery.
When combined with soft paper stocks, watercolour is a gorgeous design technique for wedding stationery suites.
To help beautifully express the tone of your special day, the inks used by The Distillery are mixed by hand and Pantone® colour-matched to perfection.
Our ink of choice is Van Son rubber-based inks. Considered the premier ink in the letterpress printing industry, Van Son inks display vibrant colour strength, excellent consistency, and ultimate suitability with letterpress papers.
At The Distillery, we letterpress print into cotton paper to achieve beautiful results. Our paper of choice is Crane’s Lettra. Imported direct from the United States, Lettra combines a soft fluffy finish with a firm fine hold. Cotton fibres are naturally long, and elegantly blend into a subtle grain to form a luxuriously smooth look and feel. Available in a variety of tones, Lettra is the perfect paper to mark your official wedding announcement.
Letterpress printing is an age-old technique dating back to the fifteenth century. At The Distillery, we have patiently learnt the craft from retired master printers, restored a family of vintage printing presses, and are proud to showcase our service here in Sydney.
When printing stationery, we love using the most precise, reliable, and loveable letterpress machines ever made – the Heidelberg Platen Windmill.
We have currently have four Heidelberg Platens in use, named in our best German accents: Wolfgang, Heidi, Klaus, and Claudia. All our presses were found rusting away in the corner of old printing factories, saved from the scrap yard.
We’ve patiently restored each press to as-new condition and even installed custom laser safety guards and switches for modern safety upgrades.
At The Distillery, our team of printmakers are always keen to share our enthusiasm for craft. You’re invited to visit our studio in Darlinghurst where you can see your stationery produced right in front of you. We also host printmaking workshops, and keen to spread the love of letterpress in Australia and around the world.
To help achieve the very best for each project, our production capabilities extend to offset, digital and wide-format printing. As a creative studio, we believe that the best ideas are lived outside a screen; inspired by heritage, and driven with technology.
