Check + Upload your artwork for printing

For your design to come to life as intended, artwork must be accurately configured as a print-ready PDF.

  • The Distillery already have your final artwork? – Fantastic, we’ll proceed to production and let you know of any queries.
  • Using Canva? – There are some challenges we may need to help overcome.

Within InDesign / Illustrator

Set up Spot Swatches

For each letterpress ink, foil, emboss and die-line print processes, set as separate Spot colour swatches.

This creates a separate ‘channel’ which can be isolated.

  • No Tint % values. Use 100% tint only

For [Black], use K=100 (or a ‘Black’ Spot colour) only

  • No rich black process value
  • No [Registration]

Leave CMYK as Process

Expectations: Your CMYK values will print slightly differently. CMYK is not a consistent colour matching system. The CMYK hue shown on your laptop will appear differently on your phone, which will print differently on every single printing press.

Leave Paper Colour as white

  • If the paper stock is coloured, do not draw background colour.
  • Supply paper stock instructions separately

Outline Typography

  • Create Outlines of all fonts

Separate all Processes on different pages

Duplicate your artwork canvas multiple times, then isolate each process to its single process page. Example:

  • Page 1 = Combined preview of everything
  • Page 2 = Letterpress ink #1 only
  • Page 3 = Letterpress ink #2 only
  • Page 4 = CMYK only
  • Page 5 = Foil #1 only
  • Page 6 = Die-line only

Export + Save the PDF with

  • Crop Marks only (InDesign), or
  • Trim Marks only (Illustrator)
  • 3mm bleed
