Letterpress Machinist – about the position

Anchored by your education and early experiences in print, you will be taught the fundamentals of working in a hands-on, craft-oriented creative studio. In time, you will grow to become a letterpress print specialist, mastering the art of deboss ink, hot-foiling, embossing and die-cutting.

In The Distillery’s craft workshop, you will have the responsibility to operate beautiful Heidelberg platens, proofing presses and production equipment. Our team will teach you to be creative and problem-solve with your heart, mind and hands. Feel a great sense of accomplishment at the completion of each unique project.

Position Suitability

This position is suitable for those who love to roll up their sleeves and tackle challenges head-on.

You should be driven, ambitious, and possess a curious mind to help forge tomorrow’s modern reality of print. An agile mindset is essential to create print which is on-point, progressive and appealing.

Skills + Requirements

We’re seeking applicants with a Certificate in Printing, or equivalent tertiary or trade qualifications.

This is a hands-on position, where you’ll be carefully printing work designed by other people.

With this in mind, to maximise your suitability you’ll need to possess the following 5 qualities:

  1. loads of self initiative
  2. meticulous attention to detail
  3. spatial and visual coordination
  4. high level problem solving skills
  5. ridiculous amounts of patience

This is a trade-based gig where you’ll develop valuable career-building skills over time.
